Mississippi will celebrate the 200th anniversary of statehood on December 10, 2017. Communities around the state will join the celebration with events and activities throughout the year, culminating in the opening of the Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson in December 2017.

The state bicentennial celebration is spearheaded by the Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration Commission, established by the state legislature in 2008. Other partners on planning the bicentennial are the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, Visit Mississippi, and other state and local institutions. The Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration website, created by Mississippi State University, serves as a gateway for events and information about bicentennial activities throughout Mississippi.
